The Public Square, as it was known in the 19th century, is in the heart of the historic city of Hudson, New York.
The Square has been neglected in recent decades and no longer serves as a restorative oasis for the residents of Hudson and its visitors. To come back to life, the park needs love and attention.
A group of Hudsonians has formed a corporation,
Friends Of the Public Square HUDSON Inc.
for the purpose of rejuvenating the 7th Street Park.
We are a non-profit corporation working with the City of Hudson, NY through a Memorandum of Understanding.
The Public Square is the most used park in the city of Hudson. It is so much more than a place of rest and relaxation. It’s the start of parades; it hosts a Wednesday Farmers Market; Winter Walk kicks off here with music and speeches: and there are concerts and rallies throughout the year.
We’ve been busy since our founding, engaging the community with volunteer activities and community meetings and surveys soliciting input on the park’s future. We have a close working relationship with the City of Hudson starting with a Memo of Understanding, and on-going collaboration with the Department of Public Works (DPW) for modest improvements including the removal of two fences surrounding the non-working fountain, a dead tree, and two decrepit signs blocking the view through the park.
